Why ultrasound diagnostics?
Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound scanning is a radiological examination method to primarily examine the soft tissues of the body, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae, vessels and nerves. In addition, we can see bones, cartilage surfaces and swelling in joints. Ultrasound examination is done from shoulders to fingertips, from hips to toes. We can see the extent of the injury and give you a professional assessment. You will receive immediate information from us and we can therefore give you a more accurate suggestion for optimal rehabilitation. If the injury is serious, you will receive a statement from the ultrasound examination to the next level.
We at Alta Vita Physiotherapy have chosen to acquire the best possible ultrasound equipment, Sonosite X-Porte. The result depends on the knowledge of the performer and the quality of the technical equipment. Both Ricardo and Gustaf, who perform the examination, have degrees in musculoskeletal ultrasound diagnostics. Ricardo also performs ultrasound-guided injections.
Benefits of ultrasound
You can examine the affected area while moving it, something you can't do with an MRI scan.
You can easily compare the affected side with the unaffected side and thus get a more objective comparison.
The patient receives immediate feedback on any findings from the examination. These can be viewed on the screen immediately or after the examination.
It does not affect pacemakers, implants or other metallic fragments in the body.
There are currently no known side effects of this type of examination.

Disadvantages
Structures inside the joint itself can be difficult to see.
It is difficult to diagnose back and neck-related problems.
What is ultrasound?
In simple terms, ultrasound works like an echo sounder. The sound waves that come back from the examined tissue are converted into electrical energy that is displayed on a screen. Depending on how compact a tissue is, these are seen in different gray tones and an image is created. In damaged tissue, we can see swelling, ruptures and thickenings, among other things.
Doppler can be used to see blood flow in different structures. In the case of an injury to a muscle or tendon, an increased number of vessels is often seen in and around the injury. These findings can further strengthen our diagnosis.
